  21.   Your best speed without compression enabled and with error control
  22. enabled should be 3.2k  With compression enabled the text portion of
  23. web pages should come in around 6k. HOWEVER, this also can be reduced
  24. because of the usage load at your provider AND on the web site that
  25. you are retrieving from. Also the speed that Netscape reports is
  26. 'averaged' over a period of time and thus is not accurate for small
  27. files and when switching between files (get part of a graphic, get
  28. part of another graphic, get some more of the first graphic, get some
  29. text, switch back.....etc.) Try to find a long text only page to get
  30. an accurate indication of speed when using Netscape, or better yet,
  31. download a file of at least 100k using Netscapes ftp protocol.

  33.   Also try to provide some more info on your setup. Are you using
  34. slip/ppp, do you have a shell account, have you tried downloading from
  35. other sites such as a BBS...etc.?
