- Your best speed without compression enabled and with error control
- enabled should be 3.2k With compression enabled the text portion of
- web pages should come in around 6k. HOWEVER, this also can be reduced
- because of the usage load at your provider AND on the web site that
- you are retrieving from. Also the speed that Netscape reports is
- 'averaged' over a period of time and thus is not accurate for small
- files and when switching between files (get part of a graphic, get
- part of another graphic, get some more of the first graphic, get some
- text, switch back.....etc.) Try to find a long text only page to get
- an accurate indication of speed when using Netscape, or better yet,
- download a file of at least 100k using Netscapes ftp protocol.
-
- Also try to provide some more info on your setup. Are you using
- slip/ppp, do you have a shell account, have you tried downloading from
- other sites such as a BBS...etc.?
